







National Aviary
The National Aviary’s $18 million expansion and renovation creates a welcoming and iconic facility designed to celebrate and house birds. The goal of the project was to integrate new structures with existing to create a more unified and cohesive visitor experience. The first building in the City of Pittsburgh designed to be explicitly bird friendly, fritted glass and other features help promote bird safety. The expanded building includes a new Lobby Pavilion, the Helen Schmidt Flitezone Theater, Education Center, Rooftop Raptor Theater, Bird Holding Facilities, and a new Cafe. The project received a LEED Silver rating.
