WEDNESDAY Secret Vault 3: Psych (Rock) 101

Dear Friends,

You are cordially invited to another in The Independent Brewing Company’s ‘Secret Vault’ music series curated by Springboard Design Principal Paul Rosenblatt on Wednesday, December 3, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Independent Brewing Company is a Squirrel Hill tavern dedicated to servingfresh local beer. Also notable is that they have a turntable and an in-house record collection of over five hundred vinyl records. That number pales, however, in comparison to the personal collection of local architect, artist, and design enthusiast Paul Rosenblatt who will be bringing selections to play from his own personal vinyl collection.

Paul will be bringing selections both classic and rare, but, in any case, selections you definitely need to hear now.  These are the choice and the deep cuts.

For more on Paul, check him out here:  www.springboarddesign.net. His recent exhibition in 707 Gallery, “Well-Played: Paul’s Vinyl Records,” part of the Pittsburgh Biennial 2014, included more than 15,000 vinyl records from his collection. You can read about it here in last week’s City Paper.

On Wednesday, Paul will be pulling plenty of surprises from the Psych / Acid Rock sections of his collection.  The theme of the evening is: ‘Psych (Rock) 101.’ You can count on hearing pop, proto, classic, and neo-acid cuts from bands like Cream, Jefferson Airplane, Pink Floyd, and The Doors, as well as some bands that you may never heard of before like The Crazy World of Arthur Brown and The 13th Floor Elevators.

While we listen to music, the Independent is going to curate an equally interesting tap list on Wednesday evening, and may even bring out a few surprises of its own.

So, rock on by.  Dig looking at album covers.  Enjoy making and hearing esoteric statements regarding the guitar players on certain tracks.  And enjoy a good beer or spirit at the place with the best music playing in Pittsburgh – on a Wednesday night.  We are sure you will feel right at home at the Indy with their record collection – and Paul’s!
